Periyar national park

Periyar national park is one of the largest national park in india.the lake inside the national park is the another attraction of national park.this lake is over an 26 sq km and you can have the boat facilities in this lake. This area was declared as reserved forests in 1899. The forest was declared as tiger reserve in 1978.the protected area lies in the districts of Idukki and Pathanamthitta .this is one of the best tiger reservation center and also the entry to the core zone is not allowded to the tourists .because there is a dam which was builted by britishers in the year 1895 to divert the water to Tamil nadu.for irrigation.

Boat cruise at periyar lake

Here you can have an amazing boat cruise through the periyar lake,The boat cruise is open from morning 7am to after noon 4pm .the price for upper deck is 100 rs. And the lower deck is 75 Rs.for 2 hours duration .here we can see more animals in the summer season that is march april during the boating time.you may aee animals like elephants, sambar deer, wild boar ,lion tailed Macaques, tigers etc.

Mangala Devi temple

This is a temple located 13 km away from thekkady at an altitude of 1337m above the sea level. it is located in Kerala and Tamil nadu border.this temple is constructed in old pandian style this temple is located in the midst of thick forest ln periyar wild life sanctuary .and this temple is dedicated to goddess mangala.this temple is open for visitors only in the month of may on chithrapournami festival day. But need special permission from wild life warden .

Anakkara

Anakkara is beautiful location situated about 18 km away from tiger reserve and it is a famous place for its panoramic view of spice plantations .this place is fully filled with spice plantations like , cardamom,vanilla and pepper . This destination lies on the famous spice circuit.

Kumily (4 km from Thekkady)

This is famous plantation town situated in the outskirts of periyar wild life sanctuary ,and this is a spice trade center also an good shopping center and also an beautifull spice town with all facilities.

Murikkady (5 km from Thekkady)
